The Lorain County Office on Aging supports the health, well-being and independence of older adults in the community. Lorain County Transit’s Dial-A-Ride service provides transportation to people unable to use the fixed-route service. It can pick riders up from their home or other origin point and drop them off anywhere within the paratransit boundary. That boundary sits 3/4 of a mile on either side of the fixed-route service. Trips must be booked in advance, and there’s a small fee for each ride. Seniors receive a discount on both Dial-A-Ride fares and fares for fixed-route services.

The Homestead Exemption offers property tax relief to senior and disabled residents. The exemption is a credit on a property tax bill that’s equal to the taxes on $25,000 of the property’s value. The exact value of savings varies based on the taxing district. To be eligible, seniors must be aged 65 or older and meet financial eligibility requirements. They must also own the home in question, and it must be their primary place of residence.
