The City of Jackson Senior Services Division seeks to promote independent living for seniors in Jackson by providing assistance with informational and referral outreach for community and state services and help with daily living such as understanding Medicaid and Medicare, knowing their rights to proper care and other at-home living situation needs. Hinds County provides affordable transportation for elderly residents to allow them to remain independent by providing rides to medical and dental appointments, grocery shopping, social service appointments, and other applicable services. This service is open to seniors and disabled adults and operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Seniors pay $1.00 for a one-way trip and $2.00 for a round-trip. Residents who are not seniors but qualify for the program pay $2.50 for one-way trips and $5 for a round-trip ride.

St. Dominic Health Services provides more than just hospital services. The hospital is sponsored by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady and provides many other services to the Jackson and Hinds County area. New Directions for Over 55 provides programs to promote wellness, social interaction, active lifestyles, and provides enrichment opportunities for seniors over 55. Each senior or disabled adult is assessed after filling out the State’s Consumer Information Form to determine their need for critical services. Their score places them in one of several levels allowing them to access services. There are numerous programs for seniors such as the emergency response system offering. Level II seniors qualify for the installation of an emergency response system in their home to allow monitoring 24/7. This promotes safety and independence for seniors living at home alone.
