The Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency, a nonprofit organization, provides a range of low-cost programs to older adults in select areas, including Davidson County. The center’s staff coordinates the long-term services that seniors need. Workers can help prepare meals, change linens or go shopping for groceries. Residents also receive assistance with daily household tasks, such as cleaning and washing dishes, as well as personal care and medication reminders.

Thanks to Meals on Wheels of Middle Tennessee, older residents can get hot meals delivered to their homes, as well as a daily safety check to ensure their well-being. A dietician plans all menus in advance, and pet food delivery is also available. To be eligible, homebound seniors must be 60 or older and meet the state guidelines for this program. Certain applicants may also qualify for congregate dining.

This not-for-profit organization helps connect seniors with local volunteers who can take them to social events, grocery stores and places of worship. The service works from Monday to Friday, and rides must be booked at least seven days in advance. Although seniors have to pay a small fee for each trip, certain participants may qualify for financial assistance. Eligibility criteria include being 60 years old or over and living within Davidson County.

Nashville’s Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency helps seniors pay for structural repairs that could improve their safety. Services include plumbing, electrical system restoration, refrigerator replacement and heating or air conditioning maintenance. Weatherization services are available, and the program also covers the installation of ramps and grab bars. Assistance is provided through grants or deferred loans. Property owners must meet income requirements, and applicants who are aged 62 or over are given priority.

The Metro Parks Senior Recreation Program manages several centers in the city for residents aged 55 and older. Seniors have access to referral services to help them determine the programs for which they qualify, and free transportation is provided to medical appointments and meal sites.
