The SeniorScore for Raleigh is 75, which is three points higher than both the state and national average of 72. This score, which evaluates a city’s senior friendliness using four specific categories, helps seniors determine whether a particular city is right for them. The eight area hospitals, including two highly ranked in geriatrics care, combined with the very high number of home healthcare providers contributes to a moderately high score of 69 in Health & Safety.
Raleigh also scores moderately high for General Quality of Life, due in part to the mild year-round temperatures. While scores for both Recreation & Leisure and Finances are slightly lower, a closer look reveals better than expected results. Raleigh’s average home health care costs are similar to those nationwide, and property taxes are lower than those nationwide. The city also has plenty of recreational opportunities, including more than 50 golf courses, 38 parks and 64 gyms or health clubs.
Seniors can connect with others and enjoy additional recreation and social events by participating in Raleigh’s Active Adult Program. This program, which organizes clubs and trips throughout the city and beyond, also coordinates with Parks and Recreation to offer classes on wellness, games, sports and more. Raleigh’s mild temperatures also mean plenty of outdoor activities such as exploring Raleigh Rose Gardens, visiting Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve or hunting for treasures at the open-air Raleigh Market.
In this guide, we offer an overview of the cost of home care in Raleigh. Resources are also provided to help seniors who receive home care remain healthy and happy in their homes for as long as possible.
