Spring Hill, Florida, is located in Hernando County, minutes from Hernando Beach along the Gulf Coast and about an hour's drive north of Tampa. Of the city's over 98,500 residents, approximately 22.9% are seniors aged 65 and older, a number notably higher than the U.S. average of 16.5%.
Spring Hill's SeniorScore is 76, which is four points higher than the national average of 72. The SeniorScore is calculated from government databases and other sources to describe how amenable a city may be to seniors based on the four categories of Health & Safety, Recreation & Leisure, Finances and General Quality of Life. Of these categories, Spring Hill's highest score of 72 is in General Quality of Life, largely because of its mild winters and comfortable year-round climate. The city scores 69 in Recreation & Leisure for its large senior population and high number of golf courses, churches and grocery stores. While its lowest score of 64 is in the Health & Safety category, Spring Hill residents benefit from numerous home care providers, pharmacies and Medicare-registered physicians.
Financially, Spring Hill is also a good choice for retired seniors thanks to Florida's lack of a state income tax, the city's low assisted living costs and lower-than-average overall cost of living. Additionally, the city offers numerous resources of support, services and subsidies to aid seniors who wish to remain living at home for as long as possible.
In this guide, we discuss how much Spring Hill seniors pay for at-home care and provide information about important and helpful local resources.
The Cost of Home Care in Spring Hill, FL
According to Genworth's 2019 Cost of Care Survey, the cost of home care in Spring Hill is approximately $4,195 per month. While this price is more than the state average home care cost of $4,004, Spring Hill seniors pay nearly $100 less per month than the overall U.S. average of $4,290.
Also of note, Genworth shows the average cost of home care in Spring Hill to equal that of home health care. This may be a perk for some seniors, because even though the two types of care are similar, home health care often costs more due to the skilled medical care the service typically provides. For example, the national average cost of home health care is nearly $100 per month more than home care, and the statewide average is nearly $200 more. The difference is even greater in cities such as nearby Ocala, FL, where home health care typically costs $4,242 per month and home care averages just $3,718.
