Minnesota – North Dakota Alzheimer’s Association The goal of the local Alzheimer’s Association is to ensure that seniors, caregivers and others who are dealing with Alzheimer’s have access to needed resources and information. Ombudsman for Long-Term Care (LTC) As advocates for the rights of seniors who live in Minnesota's long-term care facilities, the volunteer ombudsmen who works for the LTC ombudsman program investigates complaints of abuse and neglect made by seniors and their caregivers. They help seniors in long-term care facilities with questions about medical coverage and medical bills. Respite Care Services A program of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Respite Care Services provides relief to individuals who care for seniors with Alzheimer’s. The program provides a temporary break for caregivers whether they're caring for a senior at home or helping to care for them in another residential setting. This short-term relief can be used by caregivers when they need a break or when they will be absent for personal reasons, such as medical appointments. When used in a licensed residential setting, respite care can cover room and board. Arrowhead Area Agency On Aging (AAAA) The AAAA coordinates local resources and works with partner organizations in the area to provide seniors with needed resources while closing coverage gaps. The agency contracts with local providers to operate programs that deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors. It also operates caregiver support programs and provides transportation to medical appointments or social senior events. The AAAA holds regular workshops on Medicare and Medicare fraud.
