The SeniorScore for League City, Texas
The SeniorScore is a rating that provides seniors and their caregivers with an overview of a community's livability. It’s created using 100 data points from government and private databases, which are then broken down into an overall mark and marks in four different categories: Health & Safety, Recreation & Leisure, Finances and General Quality of Life. League City has a very good SeniorScore of 79, which is five points above the Texas average of 74 and seven points above the national average of 72.
The city’s highest marks came in Finance. While the average property tax and city sales tax are above the national averages, the city’s mean and median household incomes are almost double the national averages. Health care costs for seniors in the city are roughly the same as national averages, although assisted living costs are high. The cost of living in League City is slightly below the national average.
League City’s next-best mark was a 72 in General Quality of Life. While it does rain a great deal, League City enjoys ideal mean temperatures. It has mild winters and warm summers. Air quality is average, while water quality is not good. Since most residents of the city work in Houston or Galveston, they have a long daily commute.
The lowest mark came in Recreation & Leisure with a 57. One reason for this is that the city has a low percentage of seniors aged 65 and above, which reduces the number of opportunities for seniors to get together and socialize. However, there are 12 parks near the city center, 14 shopping malls within close range and many churches, synagogues and mosques.
