Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans' Home

It has been a blessing that my dad was a patient at Ben Atchley Home for Veterans on two occasions. The first time was for rehab after a bout of pneumonia and the therapy department did an extraordinary job with improving his health so that he could go back to assisted living. The second visit was in 2020 and he was suffering from more serious issues. The staff was wonderful in taking care of his care. He had therapies and constant surveillance. He was always clean, shaven, had his hair cut and toenails trimmed. He never complained about food( it was always good). When his condition worsened he entered hospice care within the facility and in the comfort of his room. The staff doctor and nursing staff were well versed in hospice care and were consistently attentive to my dad and to me in his last days of life. I recommend this facility above any other and we have experienced other facilities with different family members with poor results. The last thing one needs as a stressed and grieving family member is worry about the quality of care. The staff is trained to show respect to these veterans but it is obvious that these caregivers have a caring heart and naturally show that care and respect in every service they provide. The facility is not free but the cost is less than any other facility in Knoxville and the care is far superior. I recommend this to anyone with a family member who qualifies as a veteran.
