Concordia of The South Hills

Would not recommend this place. My 95 year old mother came here for rehab from the hospital. She has told me some people haven’t been very nice. She hasn’t had a shower and is supposed to get 2 a week. She keeps telling me not to say anything because it will make trouble for her. I go to visit and her clothes haven’t been changed from the day before. She keeps asking me if anyone is complaining about her and seems afraid to ring the bell for help. I can’t wait to get her out of there.

If you care about your loved one, keep on going and find another place. At first glance this facility looked clean and inviting. My mother was there for just a short rehab stint after a hospital visit. Within an hour of arrival, she was warned that because there was only one person working at night she should "just go in her pants". They would be happy to clean her up in the morning. That should have been clue number one. She started to decline within a few days. I came in one morning to find her unexpectedly on oxygen. Apparently they found her unresponsive in the bathroom. They didn't seem to care, nor did they feel the need to notify family. I had to track them down to get an explanation. As her condition declined further, the physical therapists became more frustrated with her. I walked in while she was working with the therapist and they seemed annoyed she wasn't doing what they wanted. She was flopping over and weak. I told them she was altered and she wasn't comprehending what they wanted her to do. They didn't care. I had to track down the nurse, again and ask that she be put on the list to see the doctor. The next day she slept all day and didn't get out of bed, never opening her eyes. She ate very little, and wouldn't have eaten at all if I hadn't shown up and helped her. I was told the doctor found nothing. I kept asking if she was dying, and they said sometimes folks sleep and just don't wake up for awhile. The next day she had a cough, and I told them. "Oh good", they said. It was something to relay to the doctor. By the next day she was hallucinating and coughing more. What was even more disturbing was they had taken her to group therapy while she was hallucinating! We were then told to take her to the hospital to have her evaluated. The paramedic listened to her lungs and in two seconds said she either had the flu or pneumonia. She had both! So while I consider forcing a hallucinating 94 year old woman to do therapy abusive, also just think that she was also exposing other residents and staff to the flu. It breaks my heart to read all the reviews about this facility that mirror our experience. I wish I had read them before. I would give this facility no stars if I could. There were a few caring aides though. Use another facility.
