CareOne at Essex Park

Worst place ever to place a loved one. My mother fell out of her bed and had a 3 cm gash on her head and they refused to transfer her to the hospital. They said she was a DNR. She was a DNR because of COVID. She was alert and saying her head hurt. After 45 minutes she was transferred to Beverly Hospital. She ended up with 12 staples in her and transferred to Lahey Burlington on the Neuro Traumas Unit. I would never send my worse enemy to this place. They should be shut down

Make note of many of the reviews of Care One Essex Park on their website. Many are complaints of loved ones jewelry being stolen at Care One Essex Park after loved ones passed away. Does not get much lower than that!!!My father who suffered from Alzheimers was a resident at CareOne Essex Park in Beverly for a little over a year. My father always wore a gold chain around his neck with a gold cross that my mother gave him and a silver cross that was given to him by his sister. This chain was never taken off.My father died at Care One on May 7, 2019. After his death of course we had other thing on our mind than his belongs. Three days after his death we remembered about his watch and the necklace. The nursing home never called us to remind us they had his property. My mother went to Care One and they gave her back his watch but no gold chain with the two crosses.I called the director of Care One and they said they would do an investigation. About a week later I get a phone call from Care One saying "no one ever remembers seeing this gold chain" on my father. This comment only infuriated me even more. Anyone who bathed him or changed his clothes would have to have seen this gold chain and two crosses on him. They were not small. For the last few months before my father died he was completely unable to do anything for himself. He could not speak, feed himself, walk or anything. It would have been impossible for my father to take this gold chain off his neck by himself. The only possible explanation is that someone at Care One took this gold chain after my father diedif you have loved ones in Care One, move them someplace else if you can

If I could give lower than one star, I would. My dad passed away here back in May 2019. He survived just nearly over one year. It is just shy of 2 months of his death, Roland Jalbert. No one has gotten back to us on the findings of what happened to his gold chain and crosses that were definitely, heartlessly, removed from his neck when he passed. Some tell me to just give up, but I can't, those belong to me, he's my dad and I am his only daughter and I won't give up hope. I need them to heal. So heartless. Sincerely. Patricia Jalbert

My parent is currently in the hospital fighting sepsis because care one at Essex Park in Beverly Massachusetts failed him!!

My grandmother was in Essex Park for 6+ months and I was genuinely afraid to leave her there. Her health quickly deteriorated and I believe it was due in large part to the lack of care and quality in the service provided by Essex. She became visibly more withdrawn, lost a significant amount of weight, was given no ability to exercise or strengthen muscles (despite being physically able) and was overall less social. She would sometimes wait over an hour to be changed or helped get cleaned/dressed, WHILE I WAS PRESENT, so that begs the question- how long was she waiting while she was alone without a young, able bodied individual speaking on her behalf? The food was disgusting, worse than I've seen in homeless shelters during volunteer trips and the "activities" they offered for entertainment were half baked. There was no enrichment or strategic activities to enhance mental sharpness or capability. I could google how to treat dimentia and treat my grandmother more effectively. Half of the staff seemed incompetent and unable to accurately communicate with patients, either that or they frankly just did not care to. Either way, from an intellectual standpoint it's sub par and more importantly from a medical/care perspective it was woefully unacceptable. Essex charges a significant amount of money for their care and I'm not sure where that money goes...it's certainly not on resources for the elderly, updated medical devices or furniture for common areas and bedrooms. At least not from an outside perspective...I'd love to see there books. The entire place feels like a hospital waiting room and smells worse. "Fun time" is rounding up elders in wheelchairs and leaving them crowded in a living room arm to arm with a TV from ~1999 playing a film that no one can hear. Needless to say, we moved her out ASAP to a cleaner, smaller facility where they value patients and don't see them as "jobs". If you have any regard for your loved one, stay clear of this disgustingly managed, profit driven facility. It was a mistake for my Grandmother to receive care her and it sent her to an earlier death.
