Golden Living Center - Galt

This is my review of what was previously listed as Golden Living Center & is now Dycora Healthcare. I was "required " to leave a star rating" I would not have given anything but a minus if I had the option or nothing at all. I also would have included, if given the option, the pictures that made the decision to have my mother examined away from Golden Living Center in Galt Ca. and taken to ER. My mother was admitted as a resident 8yrs ago at the recommendation of a friend & fellow employee who previously worked there. We had been comfortable in the care and treatment of our mom up until about 2 years ago when they had a change in ownership & management. We then started noticing different small injuries and bruises at first attributing them to possible other residents going by & bumping or scratching her, but then we noticed these events were occurring more frequently with no explanation & her care staff not even seeing them! Each time we would bring them to the attention of her CNA's, nurse, Director of nursing and the in house Social Worker. Even repeat bringing them up in our care conferences. > Incidents continued happening. Mom is on a soft puréed diet the consistency of applesauce including liquids that need to be thickened the consistency of honey. If to thin she chokes & if to thick she can’t swallow it correctly. That being said she also has to be fed upright to prevent aspiration. Once I walked in & mom was completely tilted back in a reclining position & was being fed by her nurse! When I questioned this I was told “she likes it this way” which is interesting since mom is unable to communicate. > Recently mom had a lump the size of a baseball under her arm that her nurse nor CNA had supposedly seen, as the changed, showered and rotated her daily! Once it was brought to their attention we were told by the CNA “it’s not my job to see that” from Director of Nursing “our RN’s don’t have time to exam the patients”, so who is supposed to observe changes??? And we kept questioning, had meetings to address these issues. We had brought these & more attention to these same individuals that there had been more!> On multiple occasions her thickened water for her hydration had yet to be fed to her by lunch time, The cap still on the glass, with identifying info. (Due between 9-10am) the Dr called told us she believed this was the end as mom was in kidney failure. Turns out it was due to severe dehydration! How does someone that is basically like a newborn baby become so dehydrated? Obviously not giving her fluids > > There were incidents where there were fingernail cuts & bruise's on her forearms, the half moon indentations were from the opposite direction showing that they had to be done by someone else, we were told “she must be doing these herself when my mother could not have inflicted herself with these small and other small wounds. You see my mother is a 80yr Alzheimer's patient. She is completely dependent on others for her every need, every need. Read that again, Every Need. > > She can not follow commands, respond to, hello, how are you. Roll, turn or move herself other than to bring her finger to her mouth to suck on it.> On Aug 12, my sister received a call that her dr had found a swelling on her right arm (unnoticed by staff!) and ordering x-rays, my sister was then informed that x-rays were all clear. Follow up informed us her x-rays came back clear. The next day when we arrived we found severe bruising from behind her shoulder & back to elbow wrapping around from the inside. When we tried to lift her lightweight cotton t-shirt she winced and moaned in pain we also noticed she was very lethargic not her normal self. When questioning, no one had seen it, knew about it and then tried to make excuses. Even when she was being examined by her dr, who was again ordering x-rays, she cried out in pain. Up to and including maybe she did it to herself or the blood pressure cuff! One excuse was, maybe it happened while transfer. Even that is not acceptable, that still means that someone manhandled a non verbal, 80 yro invalid. Who, can cry out in pain. And, that person heard her and still, not an incident report or any notification that there was massive bruising on an immobile resident and, not informing her guardians.> > That also means that whoever hurt my mother, heard her cry out. On further talks with the in house Social Worker my sister in response to " be honest, if this were your mom, how would you react?' Her response was. "I would question it but, I also know nursing homes and that families get emotional" As my sister is leaving the Social Worker then says to her " have you thought about taking her to the ER and have her examined? Hmmm! I know my mother cried out in pain previous to Aug12 because my mother not only had a severe fracture of her humerous near her shoulder but, a healed previous break. Now, my mother has never had a broke
