Hamlin Place

I must say that, I was extremely grateful and shock to see the Changes at the place, they have hired A lot of Registered Nurses. They also have a Respiratory services as well.My Father received excellent care, and we will return to Hamlin.The staff are very good, and caring.

PROS: The admission staff was extremely helpful in the transition from one facility to Hamlin Place. The respiratory therapist Marie is phenomenal. The physical, occupational and speech therapist work together to maximize the patient’s progress towards independence. Wes, the PT, will not allow the patient to give up. The entire nursing staff, including the aids are professional and personal, treating the patient like they are family. Lisa works closely with the speech therapist to work to remove the patient from the feeding tube and safely switch the patient to a regular diet. The patient’s rooms are clean without an odor. The director of dietary, Shirley Nixon is extraordinary, it is her goal to make sure the patient enjoys each meal and it is cook to perfection. The nursing director, Karen Williams, actually visit the patient’s rooms to ask the patient, how they are doing? Karen, actually listen for an answer, yes I did say she is the DON. CONS: Please do not blame the nursing staff, when orders are needed from Niki Hector, MD. Dr. Hector will take hours to respond and when she does show up days later, she only reviews the patient chart. Only seeing the patient if the family insist and at that rate, she will only talk to patient. The doctor never placed a finger on the patient. Things went downhill the week prior to discharge. I was telephoned about the anticipated discharge, from the nurse, Randy. I requested a staffing to assure that the I was clear on the patient current state of healthcare. Randy organized the meeting and within the first three minutes, stated we need to move quickly. I informed Randy that I was willing to have him re-schedule, because I wanted my questions and concerns addressed. The case manager stated to the patient, “if you do not go to therapy today, you will be charged out of pocket for today’s stay at Hamlin!” It is unfair to threaten patients. Working with the case manager became extremely difficult, coordinating equipment and care for the patient. This made transitioning the patient to the home extremely stressful. I requested the patient’s medical records be electronically sent to me and was told by the records department, I would have to pay $30+ dollars. There was no official discharge process. Overall, I would recommend Hamlin Place to family and friends. Kudos to the overall staff!
