Best thing I ever did was to get my mother out of this poorly managed place. Though in the process of moving we discovered the “loss” of many personal items, more than half of her wardrobe and bedding articles, and nearly all of her towels – all of which had her name on them.The turnover in staff is incredibly high. Lack of communication and proper management resulted in, among other things, inadequate training leading to poor care with individual care plans not being followed, medications not being properly administered, records not being kept, laundry items constantly being mixed up with those of other residents and lost, multiple health and safety regulation violations, and resident’s petty cash funds being mismanaged. Several meetings with the management and ownership of Hidden Valley and SAL Management to address these violations produce little to no change. Ultimately, Tyler Standing (the 4th administrator in less than two years) told me in our last meeting that my mother was getting better care than others because of my “complaining,” better care than she deserved, and that he really felt the best things we could do was to move her elsewhere. Sound advice!Since moving my mom to a different facility, she has improved dramatically, gaining back the 20 pounds she lost over the last few months that she was still in Hidden Valley. She is now receiving all the proper care and attention she once had when we first moved her into Hidden Valley, before Tyler took over. She is once again very happy, physically active, socially engaged and very talkative like she once was. This is Tyler’s first job as an assisted living and memory care facility administrator. According to his own bio, Tyler’s life ambition is to own a farm, grow alfalfa, and raise cattle. Perhaps he would have better success in that occupation.If you have a loved one in need of assisted care, and do not want them to be treated like dumb cattle, my recommendation is to consider the advice that Tyler gave to me – go elsewhere!
