Life Care Center of Coeur D'alene

I’ve worked for Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene since 2009. I decided to branch out and take a job elsewhere but I missed my coworkers, I missed our amazing residents, and I miss the building. I returned in February 2018 and I was amazed that the building was even better than I remembered! The entire facility had been upgraded, we still had most of the amazing staff that was there from 2009 and I had the privilege of meeting and working with new employees. We have such an amazing team, nursing staff who truly care for residents like they were family, and a phenomenal rehab team that will make a huge difference in your recovery! When you place your family at a skilled nursing home, whether it be for rehab or for long term care, you should feel like home when you walk in the building. You should see a clean facility with content residents. You should be greeted at the front door with staff who help you with any concerns. I know there are negative reviews out there, but from your first step in to the building you will see the difference. We aren’t perfect, but we do learn from our mistakes and we educate to make sure that our residents have the best care possible. The best feeling is when we get to see our residents successfully graduate from our program and walk out of the doors! Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene is a great place to stay, a great place to work, and I welcome everyone to come tour and see the difference!

I had emergency surgery in May, 2018. After two weeks in the hospital, I had to be moved to a rehabilitation facility. Life Care was highly recommended to me from several people at the Kootenai Hospital. So, I chose this facility. What a mistake! There were 2 good aspects of my stay...the in-house physician was good and one of the evening nurses helped me a lot (I previously knew her). Other than that, my stay was horrible. Specifically the following were my issues: (1) When I arrived, I explained that I was on a specialized low fiber diet. When I was presented with a menu for my first meal (the evening I arrived), I was told I could only choose what was on the menu and they couldn't do something to meet my needs but would have to pick out what I couldn't eat. (Example: For the tuna salad, I had to pick out the onions and celery which was an impossible task. ) After a couple of days and after trying to pick at my food to eat what I could, when my husband visited, I began crying and said I was hungry. After that, my husband fixed my dinner at our house and brought it to me. I kept complaining and was told there was nothing they could do. Finally, on Friday (after I had been there 5 days), the man in charge of the kitchen visited me. I was going to be released on Sunday at noon. So, the visit was a little late and still nothing changed. (2) Because of the nature of my surgery, I could not take care of my bathroom needs without some help. I asked that a female attendant help me and that I didn't want a male sent to assist me. The first evening I was there, and I rang for help in the bathroom, a male walked into the bathroom. When I told him I wanted a female, the young kid made a verbal response of "Whoa, whoa I'm outta here." I felt this was inappropriate, as well as the kid's (he looked to me to be fairly young) appearance. He had long bushy hair and his pants were hanging down low. I never saw him again while I was there. (3) Often times, it would take a hour or longer for someone to respond to my room when I pulled the nurse's button. This happened several times during my stay. (4) It wasn't until the Friday before I was being discharged that anyone offered to help me take a shower. I also had to call my own hairdresser to come to the facility to wash my hair. (5) Another young man came to my room early one evening to help me take off the ace bandages that were wrapped around my legs to help with swelling. I was watching a documentary on World War II on TV and the young man started talking about Nazis and the swastika and making several comments about how the swastika is supposed to be used. I thought this was absolutely inappropriate comments. I cannot recommend Life Care Center to anyone. In fact, I had to insist that I be discharged because if I stayed any longer, I would not get any better. I was disappointed that any elderly person would be treated this way.
