Life Care Center of Hickory Woods

Having read the past reviews we do not believe until we have send our loved one into this outwardly good looking landscape building. Today, I can’t agreed more exactly what they have said DO NOT send anyone to this facility unless you willing to take the risk to lose your loved ones! Same situation, NO RESPONSE constantly from nurse station after few attempts. I have to call the main line to say patient can’t breathe. Once, the patient was transfer back to hospital due to O2 level went down to 70 and second time episode happens again on Sunday morning n then Monday after dinner. Because he was grasping for breath they decide to sent him to Davidson county ER hospital. All in all he was out of hospital to rehab, fr rehab to hospital, then hospital to rehab n rehab to hospital again last time. At this point, my husband condition has weaken n more complicated. Dietary plan was not properly followed and quality care was neglected. Less than a week, I lost my husband ????????

I would absolutely NEVER recommend this facility for your family member or loved ones. I know first hand they DO NOT respond to patients. My mom went in on Thursday Jan 14th. We could not be there or visit due to covid, so we called daily multiple times checking on her throughout the day. We would be on the phone with our mom while she was calling the nurse to get help to use the restroom, one hour goes by and NO ONE came. I had to get off of the phone, with my mother, and call the nurse station just to get someone to go to her room. That was one of MANY times that happened. She was left without a nurses button for a whole day. When my mom asked where it was, her response was “what do you need”. They took FOREVER to give her the things we dropped off for her to have. One nurse told her to use the bathroom in her briefs (although she used the word diaper) because she was about to get off and they would clean her up when the next shift came in. SO my mom starts going down hill on Sunday Jan 17th. We call and call no one answers. We finally reach her Sunday EVENING. She was bedridden and was there specifically so she could have physical therapy to help her get strong to come home. When they would bring her food, they would move her phone, move her nurse button(when she had one) and she had NO WAY to even call or use her nurse call button because it unreachable for her. Tuesday afternoon, her Blood Sugar bottoms out and rather than figuring out what the problem was, they give her a Cracker and a drink. So did they run test? NO. Did the doctor even ask for blood work? urinalysis? anything? Did the Doctor even look at my mom that night or the next day? NO. Only the incompetent nurses, techs, or who ever are the ones who sit there and do nothing. SO my mom starts going down hill on Sunday gets sent back to the ER at Southern Hills on Thursday Jan 21st. She had a urinary tract Infection that went sepsis because no one would come and help her go to the bathroom and no one checked to see if she had any sort of infection being her blood pressure and blood sugar were dangerously low. Thanks to the only nurse that cared enough about my Mother to get her the help she needed for the first time in 6 days, Rashaad, who called 911, We were able to be with our mother because she was sent home on hospice and passed away on January 27th. So I will reiterate my first sentence in saying, DO NOT EVER SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS FACILITY. IT IS A SORRY EXCUSE FOR A REHAB, and an even more sorry excuse for a Medical team.

Please do not send your loved ones here. My father-n-law just fell and broke his hip in September and had hip surgery. Afterwards he was doing great. We sent him to Hickory Woods for rehabilitation in which he had been there before and the doors were open and we were able to watch what went on around Him or in some cases care for him ourselves. Not this time. We got a phone call 3 or 4 days into him being in this facility and he told us he was starving. I contacted the nursing home and asked if they had just been bringing him trays of food with no assistance and was told yes they had been why had we been hand feeding him at home? My father n law could not hold his hands still enough to feed himself and I was completely shocked. She did tell me that they would switch it up that day but this is 4 days in. A couple of days later I called and the phone in his room was off the hook and I knew it was because he could not hold the telephone so I called the front desk again and was told that someone would go check on his phone and put it back on hook. This never happened. This was on a Thursday night. Friday morning my husband calls the room at 7am and it’s still off the hook so he calls the front desk and gets ahold of Matt and was told that he would check on him and call us back. In which he did go to room and didn’t have a chance to call us my husband was calling as soon as the phone was put on hook and he stated he was with my father n law and that he felt something was wrong and that he needed to go to hospital now. My father n law was released and picked up by ambulance. We got him to hospital and he was severely dehydrated and malnourished. The hospital tried every way they could to save him but he passed away Sunday night after being in hospital a little over a week. These people are hiding behind covid. I realize they say a hip fracture is a death sentence for elderly but most definitely when they were starved. We tried everything we could to get him too eat. He was weaker than he had ever been in his life. They had the nerve to tell me that he was harder to deal with this time and I guess I don’t know to many people whom wouldn’t be irritable being starved to death.

Driving by this beautifully landscaped facility left me with a reassurance that this was a loving and caring rehabilitation center...but I was VERY wrong. Perhaps if a person enters rehab in fairly good condition and does not require much care, their experience may be quite positive; however, if you have a loved one who will require more care, beware and do not send your loved ones to this facility. My loved one lays in soiled diapers for hours on end. He has been at the facility for over a month and has had about 1 week's worth of rehabilitation when you add it all up. He has not had enough rehab to be able to use his walker to make it the bathroom. He has to live in pain and discomfort daily because no one wants to attend to his needs. Oh yes, a nurse or tech will walk by and say "I'll be right back", but no one every shows up. He has been put into the shower on the chair and told to clean his own self up and left there for more than 2 hours because he is not strong enough to walk on his own yet. All of their wonderful paperwork, Facebook page and website paint a wonderful picture of loving care and beautiful surroundings, but do not be fooled by the smoke and mirrors. They will tell you about all of these family updates, care programs and calls you will receive for updates on your loved one...but don't expect that either. They would prefer to sedate him rather than care for him. Called a few nights ago and the nurses station phone rang for more than 30 minutes and NO ONE every answered. I realize that COVID-19 is a new situation for everyone, but at a time when our loved ones require facilities such as this, we entrust the care of someone we love to the professionals when we cannot get in to see them. Such a helpless and sad place to be. Disappointed, frustrated and sad knowing there is nothing that I can do to make the situation any better for him. It should not be this way for anyone we love; especially the elderly.

My Dad was placed here in June of 2019. He was constantly neglected his pain medication, food at times, hygiene including baths and fresh linens. Upon multiple calls from myself and other family members this was somewhat remedied. The director refused to return calls or emails. Upon his death within their facility in August before we could get his belongings they stole all of his snacks and drinks and hid his power chair. His power chair took multiple attempts and many efforts to be returned. I would not recommend this establishment to anybodies loved one. I am not downing this place to just down this place. The place truly did not take care of my father and I am very disappointed in how they treated him. He had constant bed sores. He was very unhappy here during his last days, weeks and months here. You are only as good as your staff but they definitely need to step it up. ANYBODY that has a loved one here needs to double check these reviews because this is not the best answer for your loved one!!!! Beware!!!!

My Step Father was there before he passed away as well as a friend of mines Mother the Doctors there are excellent and the Rehabilitation Nurses all I can say is God Bless you all My Step Father the last of his days spent some there you guys had him in the best condition I hated that he ever had to leave because while there he was in the best if care and that I'm so great ful for and my friend his mother too we were able to give a beautiful birthday party for and she had been in better help and health there than anywhere else Thank You God Bless
