Madison Center

I was in for 10 days and went home much worse off than I was when I went in. Physical therapy was pathetic. My home PT gave me more therapy in the first visit than I had in 10 days at Genesis. I was horribly constipated and they did nothing to treat it except give me Depends to wear and catch the liquid that was oozing out of the impacted stools. You could go for 45 minutes after calling a nurse to use the restroom before someone would show up and put you on the toilet. The occupational therapy consisted of learning how to write checks. The food was awful, came in huge portions that a well person wouldn't be able to eat. The rehab side is extremely understaffed, most of the workers have a bad attitude and I don't blame them. Assistants wore T-shirts and jeans on the job, had dirty hands and didn't wear gloves when having contact with patients. The place seems like a money machine, not much else, for the owners. I was so glad to get out of this place!

My loved one was injured multiple times, and family was only notified once with very little explanation. The administrator practically refuses to return phone calls about concerns. If he does, he has become extremely evasive answering any questions. He makes promises he doesn't keep and instructs staff to be evasive as well. It is extremely concerning especially with the pandemic, because family is not allowed near loved ones and have no other way to find out what is going on in the facility. Yet, the communication from admin and staff has decreased severely. Residents have been moved around constantly, many personal items have been "lost" with no explanation, scheduled calls and visits are not kept, and staff does not seem to know what is happening day to day or even hour by hour. Management seems to be in way over their heads with the pandemic and/or to be hiding organizational and staff shortages and problems. Maybe worse. It's extremely odd and worrisome.

My father was a patient at the Madison Center in Morgantown, WV. We found the facility to be be clean, bright and welcoming. The staff was friendly and consistent in their protocols. The director frequently touched base with families and patients. The staff at the Madison worked closely with the hospice organization that served my father. Facility staff contacted me is there was a change in my dad's status. Overall it was one of the best nursing homes I have been associated with. The director and staff are to be commended.
