Merit House

I am totally disappointed in Merit House. A few weeks ago while driving in my car, a phone call came in on caller ID from Merit House. I immediately panicked because Merit House has never called me on my cell before. I thought something had happened to my Mom or perhaps she had passed. I did not know what to think, they never call me. When I answered the phone the Director of Nursing identified herself as "Kim" and began yelling into the phone, she stated in an extremely loud voice , "YOU will not go in other patients room including ( nameless person in this format). She was going on and on screaming without explaining what had actually occurred. She did state we were on a recorded line. Anyone that listens to that call will likely agree with me, the call was very unprofessional. Short version, after not being able to reason or get the the bottom of why she called me, I attempted to speak with one the owners. Same madness. A few days later, one of my family members stated they were visiting our family and saw a picture posted of me stating,"I was to only visit certain areas of the nursing home. " Funny, I live in a completely different state and barely have time to visit my own family member, the way I would like. I would have NO reason to visit in another patient's room. To complicate matters I received a phone call from John (one of the owners) He was on the same nasty sheet of music as Kim and the co-owner. A few days later a family informed me there was a letter addressed to me and taped to the wall in my mother's room. I have since then received the letter and in this letter this John is again stating something about me being in another patient's room. He ended his letter stating as far as he was "concerned the matter was closed." How unprofessional on all levels. I could have had a car accident after that call from Kim. Funny, the person's room that they accused me of, I am the one that suggested to their family to place their family member in Merit House (SO, they could have a picture of me from numerous events ) In the meantime, I did notify Toledo Police and explained the situation to them. I was informed if need be, they would accompany me into Merit House. I don't want my family member to witness that or be embarrassed, however, when I am driving in from another state I need to see my family member without drama. I still don't know where Merit House received my phone numbers or full name, as other local family members are POA. My family is very disgusted by this situation.Our family has other patients there that my family has known for at least 50 years. It is great to see them chat with our family member about the "good old days." I plan to keep TPD on the back burner if need be.

Do not put your loved One in this AWFUL PLACE!! If my siblings were not in control I would have moved my Gram out of there the first week..The Aids & Nurses are nasty & uncaring..I visited my Gram for 2-3hrs every time & never saw one staff in her room..they never changed her depend & she developed bedsores..Thankfully she had NWO Hospice bathing her 3-4 days a week, Merit never bathed or changed her..Gram would be in the same clothes on Monday that Hospice had put on her the previous Friday. There would be old caked food & "other" caked things on her clothes & in her bed, it was obvious she was Totally Ignored All weekend by Merit ..There were ants in her bed & on her bedside table, sometimes crawling in her food!! The staff who brought her trays must be blind, I had to report the ants EVERY time..the staff blamed Gram for the ants, saying "it's her fault because she eats in bed."..Many patients eat in bed @ the hospital where I work at, & we don't have Any ants!! Kim the DON is uninterested in any issues regarding the poor care her staff is delivering & chooses only to support the staff in Every issue..so, there is zero chance I could improve my Gram's care..Everytime my Gram put her light on, it was over a half hr before Anyone came in to her room..The staff would then bark @ Gram, & if she didn't answer immediately they shut her light off & hurried out of her room..Gram constantly commented how mean & nasty the staff was..Sweet Gram never complained about anyone, so this highlighted how bad her care was..Gram had 3 different coccyx bedsores & 3 different heel bedsores..I found EVERY bedsore & had to alert the staff..Charlotte their "wound nurse" told my sister multiple times the bedsores were healed, when they were not!! I often cried in my car after having to leave her in this horrible place..The Adminstrator (actually the Owner) was uninterested when I attempted to speak with him about the poor care his facility was performing, the bedsores & the harm my Gram had been subjected to..He spoke about Medical Nursing as if he had a medical background & experience & education to support his views on my Gram & the care they were giving her..Only to admit that he has "No Medical Background", yet he was still very aggressive in defending his staff & facility.. I don't think I will Ever be able to think about my Gram & the mistreatment of Merit House without extreme sadness & regret..DO NOT PLACE UR LOVED ONE AT MERIT HOUSE!!
