Oakwood Care Center

My brother was sent to Oakwood after being in ICU at Franklin Square. The care at Oakwood was unbelievably poor. He was not able to care for himself or feed himself. They would put his food on the tray (next to his full urinal) and just leave it. He was not able to feed himself. Trash (including used medical devices) was left on the floor, tray or whatever flat surface was available. Milk had spilt on his floor and it remained there until I cleaned it up myself. I would ask someone for water for him and they couldn't understand what I was asking for. He was fine (except for being weak) when he was admitted into Oakwood. After nine days there, he was sent to Franklin Square in critical condition. He contracted a bacterial infection while at Oakwood and is not in the ICU. This was not only happening to my brother, but I noticed that other patients were not being cared for. Cleanliness is certainly not a top priority. Most of the patients were left to their own devices. Very sad. To be honest, I would not even let my dog stay there.

On Nov 20, 2021 my sister 65 yrs old died unexpectedly due to a bed sore that grew to the size of a lemon down to the bone. Recurring sepsis the hospital said was too late. Neglect on behalf of the wound care specialist Dr. Geurero, nurses, CNA and the medical director. They never sent her to the hospital for further treatment when the sore would not heal earlier. My sister suffered needlessly and died way to early. She has early signs of dementia and was not turned or assisted her in keeping her clean. I would not send an animal there. Please do not send anyone that you care about there!!!!!!

This place is a JOKE and I mean a JOKE. My friends husband went into rehabilitation to regain strength in his legs and arms. He had mid stage of Alzheimers. You had to call to set up an appointment for an outside 25minute visit. No one hardly answered the phone nor returned phone calls. She had two visits in 12 days. It was the 4th day he was there and the 12th day that she was able to visit with him. . On the 12th day I was with her. I asked one of his therapist “ if he had been getting physical therapy because his legs were all curled up and he was unable to put them straight”. The therapist replied “yes”. I replied I didn’t understand how they were able to in the condition he was in. They had not brushed his teeth since he had been in there. They said “he wasn’t eating much and would not drink. We told them they needed to help him and encourage him too eat and drink. They did not! He was moaning “they hurt me” but was unable to tell us how. They did call a couple of times to say “he fell but he was alright. “ I also asked if he was dehydrated because he looked so bad and the therapist said “he didn’t think so”. We were very concerned the day we left there. The following morning the rehabilitation center called and said “they were taking him to Franklin Square because he was severely dehydrated”. After going through ER we were told” he was severely dehydrated, kidneys weren’t working and had blood in his urine, and a broken hip”. All his blood work was off. The hospital suggested hospice because he had so many issues and his body was quickly failing fast. He went into hospice and lasted 5 days. The rehabilitation center NEGLECTED him horribly. What a sad Thanksgiving. Please please please don’t put your love one there for rehabilitation not long term.

Oakwood Care Center (What a joke!)1300 Windlass Dr, Middle River, MD 21220I wouldn't give them one star but I had to so I could post this!I am upset with the hospice organization for not following up on her accommodations and the hospice nurse for not physically seeing my mother’s medications when she went to check on her. They call it a “Tuck in Visit”. Another joke!! I am livid with the egregious medical care from Oakwood. Monday August 9th my mother went into Oakwood Care Center for a respite stay. She has lung cancer and dementia. She was supposed to have a private room due to the Covid epidemic. She left our home and arrived at Oakwood at approx 1:09 pm. Long story short, I called that evening at 6 p.m. That is when I found out that she was not in a private room but had a roommate. They gave me the room and bed number. I couldn’t get through for an hour and half! For some reason her phone wasn’t hooked up…I didn’t have contact with my mother until after 7:30 p.m. She was not acting like herself. The nurse took the phone and told me that I shouldn’t have sent her medications with her. I was told by Gilchrist to send the medications. What set me over the edge was learning that my mother had her medications in her possession for an undocumented length of time! In what universe is this a safe practice!At that point I decided I needed to get her out of there. I called the front desk and told them I was coming and to get her ready. I would be about 20 minutes. I got a call from someone at Oakwood in route asking me why I was taking her out. I told him that she should NEVER have had possession of her medications for any length of time! Also she should have had a private room. I told him I would be there in 5 minutes and he had better meet me outside. He was outside but no sign of my mother. I told him to go get her now and again he asked why, again I told him why. I wasn’t allowed to go and help her pack. When he came to the door with her, she was using her walker. She is on oxygen 24/7. Two major issues here, she was using her walker and they didn’t have her in a wheel chair not to mention no oxygen! He never asked me for ID to prove I was who I said! I have no clue how long she had gone without oxygen that day. What I do know is that the woman that left her home that afternoon isn’t the same woman I picked up that night!It has been approx. a week and a half. She is still traumatized about the brief visit! She kept trying to take care of her roommate because apparently the staff wasn’t doing their job. She told me that she tried so hard to take care of her all day but she was getting so tired that she couldn’t do it anymore. For a week my mother did more crying in her waking hours than anything else. She still tells me and asks about that poor ol soul that was in the room with her. I am also traumatized and livid that she went through this! I have yet to get any answers from Oakwood. I have left messages for the director of nursing and no response. Keep in mind that this is the abbreviated version of what all happened.To sum things up, I wouldn’t put a dead dog in that place!!!!

My dad was there for rehab for 2 months. Went to pick up his clothes to wash them, they gave me someone else’s dirty clothes,including underwear which my dad had been wearing for 2 weeks. It took them over an hour to find his clothes, which they lost several items. This was beyond disgusting!

I cannot recommend this facility. My mother got a stage 4 wound on their watch which resulted in her death. The aides are terrible and they stopped getting her up.
