Do not send your loved one to Orchard grove specialty care Uncasville, Ct. They overmedicate, they don't communicate, with family of patient, or each other and they are understaffed. Not enough therapy because of being understaffed, and no way of improving due to overmedication of narcatics. My mom lasted 6mth at this place, it was a downhill spiral with no chance of improvement. I told them I wanted her off narcotics. Phsychologist were not told I wanted her off them. They never contacted me or introduced themselves. I was not told she had phsychologists prescribing more than her body can handle, too groggy to do well in therapy she was taken off therapy, It took a mth to get her on Optum care, and still on narcotics, she was too sleepy to eat, or chew, they softened her food, when I she was finally off narcotics 3-4 mths passed, she was in pain no one could figure out why. She wouldn't drink, eat or take her medication. Eventually I had to put her on hospice, started 5mg morphine every 4 hrs, still in pain and no liquid I.V. she was dehydrated and they said she was still in pain every time they moved her she would stiffen and yell out, a symptom of alzhiemer. They increased the morphine to 10mg every 4 hrs. When I requested a copy of her medication. The nurse had to call the advisor first and after some time on the phone with the nurse listening to advisor she was able to give me a list of that day, although, mom was getting 10mg of morphine every 4hrs she also recieved another 20mg of morphine just 2 hrs after her 10mg dose. She was so out of it she did not respond to me. The next morning she passed. One day I found her in bed under the covers they put her to bed to rest and changed her, when I checked to see if they had changed her I saw that her pants were only pulled half way up her legs with the covers over her. I mentiond to her care nurse that she was left with her pants half way down. The nurse apologized for forgetting. How does someone cover the patient and not see she didn't have her pants pulled up. There's 2 cafeterias one is for patients that need more assistence, there's usually 2 nurse aides to each table feeding to patients one particular day I was there, apatient needed to use the bathroom, no one paid attention that she needed the bathroom the nurse aid at her table told her to wait after lunch, and then she will take her, because there are no extra nurses, a while later the patient said she was wet. And they still made her sit there wet until after lunch then they took her and some one else mopped the floor. This place is bottom barrel, understaffed. Do not send your loved one here, check reviews, its a death sentence, unconmunitive understaffed, these are only the things I saw when visiting, I can only imagine the things that nurses forget to do or medication, they give or forget because of lack of communication. One day I asked how was mom's appetite yesterday? The nurse didn't know she was off 3 days. Then I asked if she was still crying out in pain, the nurse again said she didn't know cause nothing was written down. If you have a family member you are considering of putting in there, be sure its only temporary, and not the specialty care unit on LL. This level needs more RN and CNA. There are some CN I met that were kind and do there job properly, they remember to brush the patients teeth and hair and remember to pull the pants all the way up.
