Palm Terrace Care Center

A story of supposed “Care”, Agony and Death. Last year my mother was admitted to Palm Terrace Care Center to recover from a broken shoulder. After three months undergoing what passes for “care” and “rehabilitation” at this facility, were she exhausted almost all of her Medicare coverage, they decided to discharge her. Two days before her discharge, while under their supposed “care” and allegedly “attended”, she was allowed to fall in her restroom, shattering both her legs. Palm Terrace notified me of the incident while I was driving from my office. They simply said that she had fallen and was taken to the hospital. They refused to answer my questions on the phone and just kept talking over me; I finally hung up and rushed to see her. At the hospital, the doctors gave a very grim diagnosis and said she faced the prospect of a life threatening operation.A few days later I received a call from Palm Terrace asking if she was coming back! (Really?? Why?? Was there something else she was supposed to break??) Needless to say there is no way I would ever send her back to that place. After leaving the hospital, I put her in a REAL skilled nursing facility to try to recover. Of course having used up most of her Medicare coverage at Palm Terrace, she was faced with uncovered bills that eventually ran into the tens of thousands. Unfortunately, she was NEVER ABLE TO WALK AGAIN till her agonizing premature death seven months later. During that time she was bed-bound and under constant pain and opioids and numerous trips to doctors and hospitals. (By the way Palm Terrace charged me over $200 later to get all her medical records!)Looking back, I should have hired my own caregivers to stay with her round the clock at Palm Terrace to fill in the “gaps”. Or better yet, just sent her to a different facility to begin with. Have you ever heard of a “care” center where a patient came out 10 times worse than they were when they went in? Where a patient came out permanently crippled and disabled after three months of “care” and “rehabilitation” ? You have now. It’s called Palm Terrace.
