Park Rose Care Center

I would give Park Rose a two star rating, going that high because a good portion of the staff were friendly while I was there and did appear to try to give my husband good care in spite of how short staffed they were. I would encourage anyone who has a loved one there to make sure you have around the clock family there to ensure your loved one gets the care they deserve. If you don't, your loved one will digress rapidly. This is supposed to be a skilled nursing facility because they have nurses around the clock and they provide respiratory therapy, speech therapy, and wound care. The therapies and wound care are contracted staff who don't work weekends with the exception of the respiratory therapist. As a result of staffing shortages for the level of care necessary for the patients who require respiratory care, the nurses get burnt out and slack off on some of their duties; i.e. not cleaning the feeding tube properly or crushing the pills fine enough for a feeding tube, thereby causing breakage of the tubes. And they are so tuned out to the alarm buzzers that go off constantly that I shudder to think if someone really was in distress. Also, while there, my husband's electric wheelchair, a durable piece of equipment, stopped working and the battery charger is still missing. It is my opinion that Management needs to hire more staff if this facility is truly supposed to be a skilled facility rather than simply a nursing home where old folks go to die. And speaking of management, they sent my husband to an out of network hospital for feeding tube replacement, and of course the bill was denied payment by our insurer. I was told not to worry because this would be Park Rose's responsibility to pay for it since it was their error and they know to look in the patient's file to see who their insurer is. So far that bill has yet to be paid and is now one month past due...and no response from Park Rose.
