St. Joseph Villa

My father is in St Joseph’s Villa In Salt Lake City Utah owned by Ensign corporation and had been there for rehab.I’m so distressed to even have him there. Nothing works there, and I am not exaggerating. He has been left alone several times with no working call button. Over 5 times we have called that to their attention and they just bring another broken one. They have senior tv there, the remote does not work, I have asked more than several times to get a working one. The answer was “they are all like that”. Seriously it’s the only mode of entertainment. My father cannot swallow pills unless they break them for him. I was in the room with a guy brought in the pills and my weak father told him he could not swallow one that big, the guy handed it to my dad and said “break it yourself”.He goes days without being bathed, they do not even help him change his clothes. If it were not. For his family He would be in serious trouble. They bring in stained sheets to put on his bed and leave them on the chair. The family changes the sheets. We complained about the stains and were told “they are all like that”. They leave his bathroom dirty. I will get there in the evening and the dirty used stuff from morning is still sitting in the bathroom sink. Everything there needs to be updated. The beds are old and uncomfortable.Hard to find a blanket or a nurse. They are understaffed. One day my dad asked for ice cream, he was told “the fridge was locked”.I can’t even believe this place passes health inspection.The food is not fit to eat, watered down juice, they trays get left in room for hours at a time. It’s dark and depressing … one night they left ALL of the lights on all night long, of course call button did not work and the chain behind his bed was broken so he laid there all night with all the lights on.You walk in the door and they have a self serve Covid monitor that takes your temp… but the girl at the front desk who is doing absolutely nothing, maybe answering the phone does not watch people use it. People walk in without masks in groups that are not even screened. Their “dining room” is a card table and chairs divided by a plastic screen.They cut back on every possible thing they can. I will say my father had had a great speech therapist… she cares. I would give the place zero stars if it were possible. You can just check your humanity and pride at the door when you get there.My father was running a fever and when we asked about it, we were told “we don’t know that for sure, because some of our thermometers don’t work properly” . I am a business owner myself and I do not leave negative reviews. But this place is being run at rock bottom dollar to make the corporation rich and the elderly suffer. I hope the news media follows up. It was not my choice to choose where he went, or I would have him out of there in a heartbeat.
