Taos Living Center

My mom was placed in this facility much to my dismay. Your mother gave you life... What ever happened to families caring for one another? In the living center my Mom's diamond and ruby pendant was stolen. She was given medications that led to her death. I am a retired spec. educ. instructor. I have spent 10 + years assisting disabled children and young adults. I know what caring care is and what it is not. I'm not bitter towards this facility because of my mom's death as I had nothing to do with her being placed there. Mechanical lifts should be used for people that have had fractures to the hip. This was not done at first leading to bruising. The mattress on the bed is a two inch plastic covered piece of foam. How would you like to be a woman rolled into a shower in a wheel chair and hosed down with a shower head by both male and female assistants? This is what my mom experienced. This location could be better if money was put into making it a nursing home that gives people dignity and respect. On the day my mom went to the ER and died shortly thereafter, I had told the nursing assistant taking her vitals that they were abnormal and warranted additional review by the Nurse on staff. I knew this because of my special educ. training. The assistant became indignant with me stating, "I'm a CNA, I know what I'm doing." Everybody ends up on oxygen. As I observed the tubing coming into her nose I could see black debris inside the tubing. On one occasion she had the tube in her nose and the tank was empty. My mom was admitted into the hospital for pneumonia. The symptoms of this condition are easily recognizable if you are providing comprehensive care. At times she seemed afraid to say anything to staff - a typical sign of intimidation and fear. Hey Dallas Corporate. I'm sure you make tons of money from the federal government, why don't you contract your long term care (for profit) with this place and get a first hand experience of what it is really like?
