The Merriman

My love one has been at the Merriman for a little over a month. I visit them 4-5 times a week. I have yet seen the elevator clean, dirty rug and always dirty corners. The clock in hall just before you enter patient rooms has been at 10:00 for a month, needs a simple battery change. They seem to lack nursing aide and housekeeping staff. Sometimes, I see someone with a housekeeping cart but, somehow my loved one rooms hardly ever gets cleaned, swept ,mopped or trash collected. It's the norm for me now to clean the room myself and I set the bagged trash and dirty bed sheets outside in the hallway. I have my own sanitizer to clean sink and wipe down surfaces, including bed tray. I have decided if he stays there I will need to invest in my own broom and mop so the floor can be cleaned. I was told he had 2 days a week for showers, last week he didn't get any showers. I now collect wash cloth and towel from trolley in hall and position him in front of the sink so I may clean and shave him. I also dress him and change bedding with linen I get from the trolley. Never are there any bed pads available, nor urinals (I purchased and brought one myself) I also supply his pull up disposable underwear and stock in his closet. Done were ever placed in his room to change if he had a accident. He did say a aide will come by occasionally and ask if he needs anything. I find this very strange,my loved one has cognitive issues and really can't tell someone what he needs. It seems they would just preform the tasks of a aide, changing a bed, tidy the room, personal grooming or showering. Why must the PATIENT tell them what they need. They also inform the patient to get his clothing all together if he wants a shower, my loved one is not able to do this on his own, he requires their help. I think they do that so they can say they checked on him and he refused help. Surely, this is not how the proper procedure. The food is better than most nursing homes, but that's the only positive I can see. Lastly, the patients have to share bathrooms located in the halls, definitely not sanitary or practical. I'm thinking of moving him somewhere else.
