Plantation Estates

Those of us in the independent living section were sold a lie. We were told that we would be living our lives in the same independent self-directed way we did before we moved in. The covid situation has demonstrated that is not the case. We were in total lockdown for six weeks, could not leave the campus. If we did leave, we were punished with a 2-week self isolation requirement- stay in our apartment with a sign - I call it the Scarlet Letter - taped to our front door. Now we are allowed to leave the campus 2 days a week. And be grilled along with temp taken each time we return. And yet, all staff come and go every single day. Yes, they are questioned with temps taken every day as well. But - they are free to come and go. So basically, they trust 16-year old wait staff more than they trust us. Meetings and emails have resolved nothing. They say they understand but - and the Director actually said this - that’s the rule, that’s the way it is. The Acts company is equipped to deal with the very elderly compliant population. And that is how they treat all of us - we who are retired doctors, lawyers, accountants, engineers, hospital administrators, bankers. The result of these unreasonable restrictions is that we have many residents now dealing with stress, high blood pressure, insomnia, depression, and alcoholism. They closed the gym, the pool, the dining rooms. Dinner is delivered each night - from a pared down menu, and usually poorly prepared. The corporation preaches “loving kindness” and “God’s plan”. My God doesn’t have a plan like this. They talk the Christian talk, they practice something quite different. I truly regret coming here and now I am trapped.

I recently visited my sister for 6 days and I was appalled at the food offered in the main dining room. I realize that there is major construction going on in the facility, but based on what the residents pay for meals , there is no excuse for the quality of the food offered being so poor. We dined at The Chop House in the next complex one night, and the food was excellent. However, the main dinning room offerings were literally pitiful. My chicken breast was cold and hard and dry as paper, the mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy, the gravy was cold, and the salad bar offered a meager selection. To make matters worse, the desserts had been sitting out, uncovered since before 4 PM ( we saw them when we took a walk to see the progress of the renovations through the big windows), so by 5:45 when we came to eat, the piece of cake I chose was so dry, and stale, even me, a sweet lover, could not eat it. I would think it was a health violation to have those items, including berry pies, sitting out uncovered for several hours. Our waiter brought our drinks and then disappeared. No bread was brought to the table. Others at the table had to flag down passing wait staff to get water refills or later coffee. He finally returned to remove our dinner plates after dessert. I realize you must think you have a captive audience, so what can they do. Well, I suggested a petition and a request for lower meal fees, or that they use GrubHub and have HOT, tasty meals delivered each evening to the dinning room at a lesser cost. I am happy that my dear sister gets to eat out regularly.By the way in your choices of "EXPERIENCE" below, you left the N out of friend... "fried" is very apropos of how I would feel if I lived there and paid for this poor quality of food.
