Designed to help seniors at risk of nursing home placement continue living in their homes, the Elderly/Disabled Home and Community Based Care Waiver offers low-income seniors a range of helpful services, including homemaker services, assistance with personal hygiene and companion services. To qualify, an applicant should be a full Medicaid recipient or have an income that doesn't exceed 300% of the SSI limit. Additionally, eligible applicants should have a physician-confirmed disability that would benefit from a nursing home level of care.

Through the Alabama SenioRx Prescription Assistance Program, Huntsville seniors can receive renewable three-month supplies of free and discounted prescription medications. In addition to being at least 55 years of age, seniors must have a qualifying medical condition and meet income guidelines to participate. The program was founded in 2002 and is managed by the Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging.

The T.A.R.C.O.G. Nutrition Program offers seniors aged 60 and over either one hot meal a day at a local senior center or a nutritionally balanced meal delivered to their residence. Meals are designed to provide a third of the average senior's daily required caloric intake. For home-delivered meals, seniors must have a disability that limits their mobility, and because of high demand, there may be a waiting list. Small donations are encouraged but not required.
