The Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association offers several programs for seniors. Through MIFA Meals on Wheels, it delivers hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors. Another program matches seniors with volunteers who provide companionship and help with daily activities; these volunteers are all aged 55+. Seniors on fixed incomes may also qualify for emergency assistance with rent, utilities or other bills.

This grant program helps low-income seniors pay for emergency home repairs. Eligible seniors can receive a grant of up to $10,000 to make necessary repairs. Several types of emergency repairs are covered by the program, including repairs to plumbing, electrical and heating systems. Seniors may be eligible if they earn no more than 60% of the area’s median income.

Catholic Charities of West Tennessee offers an emergency bill payment program that can help seniors prevent a utility disconnection. Shelby County seniors can apply for a one-time payment that ensures they receive utilities for another 30 days. This payment doesn’t cover late fees.

Share the Pennies is a home weatherization program that helps low-income seniors make their homes more energy efficient. It’s sponsored by Memphis Light, Gas and Water, the city-owned utility.
