I worked in the health care field 25 years and never saw just horrible care! She was at Hamot Hospital, no one else had a bed that is the only reason she was placed here.My mother slept in a wheelchair for 3 nights as her bed did not have enough air in it, the director , Head RN and staff were notified and it still took four days to fix, she was not allowed to have a recyliner in her room as they did'nt want her sitting due to a pressure sore, apparently sleeping in a wheelchair was ok! We continuly told them my mother was waiting a half and hour or better after ringing her call bell to go to the bathroom, on Jan. 31 she waited an hour, Feb. 4th she waited 4 hours and had to wet her pants, she was so embarrassed and called me crying to get her out of there, it was heart breaking! that's when they realized the call bell did not work, I reported the long wait times to the director Kim, head of Nursing Laura Martin and other staff. She went from Jan. 27 to Feb, 5th with the call bell not working! She has taken pain pills for 20 years because of several different medial problems, every 4 hours, they ran out and left her in pain for 20 hours!Jan. 31 the wound care Dr. George ( He is an LPN, They call him a Dr. no one could even tell me his last name) ordered an antibodic as my Mothers leg was infected, she asked daily when it was to be started. Feb. 3rd, I had a meeting with Kim, the director she was checking in to it, Carissia the wound care nurse changed bandages on her leg, could not understand why antibodic had'nt been started yet. She also stated Dr. George ordered it last week,I could clearly see lots of white thick puss running out of the bandages before she even changed them.I spoke to head RN and Julie the nurse daily, My Mom is diabetic an infection could kill her! On Feb. 6th Laura head RN called me AFTER SEVERAL CALLS FROM ME ALL WEEK AND MY MOTHER BEGGING THEM TO GET THE ANTIBODIC, She said she personally unwrapped her leg and it is not infected, no antibodic needed? On Feb. 7th, very next morning Julie a different nurse called me to say she has cellulittis in that leg, an antibodic was started, this would not have happened if she had started it on the 31st .Feb. 8th my sister saw her legs , the gauze was soaked with yellow and green puss, bandages were dated Feb. 7th, on the 9th , still same gauze from the 7th, The gauze was so soaked it slide down her leg, puss was dripping off onto the floor, I demanded they be changed, the RN said orders from Dr. was every two days to change, they would do it later, I said that can't be correct, she was snotty, If you see they are that wet, that infection is keeping that wound soaked, its been 72 hours I was scared, I stayed until 8 pm until the wound care nurse came to change it.She unwrapped her legs saturated with puss, proceeds to put clean gauze on her dirty legs without cleaning them in any way! I told her they had to be sprayed down good with wound care spray and dried, she kept wrapping them, dropped a piece of opened medicated gauze on the dirty floor and was going to put that on her leg, I made her throw that out, she whined because she had to go get more? I told her to find something to clean her legs to, she brought back not the wound care spray, q tip with benadine on it, tapped the top of her foot with it, did not clean her legs at all where the sores were and wrapped them both, than when I said these should be changed every shift or as needed, she said oh ya, I just realized Dr, did put a second note in her chart, prn, as needed, but they leftthem for 72 hours!! And rewrapped them without cleaning them, this woman does all the wound care second shift, she is going to kill someone! Feb. 10 I reported this to Head RN Laura Martin and the Director Kim, the Rn said she would go over some things with the nurses, did'nt seem to concerned, On Feb. 11 I was to meet with Carolyn, the GECAC Ombudsman, at the home, instead I chose to get my Mom out of there before they kill her, I had her sent back to Hamot as now I was certain she was septic,I thought from there I could get her some where better, She died Friday! I do not want any one to ever go thru what my poor Mother went thru, It was devastating for her and I did everything I could but no one cared! Please do something, please, my Mother and every other human being deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion!
